Eat FreeRight now our system is based on profit at the expense of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health for all but the few who happen to be on the top of the heap. And arguably many of our corrupt and out of touch political and business leaders are not happy or healthy even though they are "On Top". The system we are living with now clearly destroys the life of all it touches. How do we begin to change? This is a primitive stage in our evolution as a species but the time is coming to give up our childish ways and learn to live with less effort and greed and more freedom and compassion. But how do we begin? A simple first step is to stop supporting the factory farm industry by eating a Vegan diet high on organic, locally grown fruits and Vegetables. Even cutting down on animal products and buying local food is a big help. Land ownership/Herding Culture: inventions that have proven unworkableIn the books Ishmael and The Story of B, author Daniel Quinn describes the present context of the dominant culture as just one permutation of how human society can be structured. He shows convincingly that our way is not the only way and is a very recent invention. Herding-culture and massive agriculture began only a few thousand years ago. For most of human history no one would think to grow a massive surplus of food, preserve it unnaturally, and lock it up to gain wealth and power. Humans used only what they needed and left the rest for other species to enjoy. The cultures that have recently been assimilated and destroyed by the dominant culture are not based on destroying and dominating everything that does not comply. For of thousands of years these cultures lived with much leisure time and without destroying massive amounts of resources or fencing off land from others. Does this mean we have to go back to no indoor plumbing and no electricity to be happy and healthy? Of course not. We need to change our motivation for living from that of profit for only the human species and those within a single tribe, to well being for all species of plant and animal. |
